Whose Light Do You Carry Within You?

Whose light do you carry within you?  This time of year is defined by light—twinkling lights in our homes, candles in our windows, and the glow of gathering with the people we love. Light brings us comfort, hope, and connection. And this year, that meaning felt especially powerful as we came together for our Illuminate event.

One of the most moving moments of the night was when the Light Bearers entered the darkened room. As they made their way forward, their candles glowing softly, Regina Skeeter began singing “Be a Light.” Her voice created a sacred moment as the Light Bearers honored their loved ones. You could feel the entire room stand still, united by emotion and memory.

That procession reminded us that no matter how dark things may feel, each of us carries a light within us. And when we come together, those individual lights create something brighter—something strong enough to guide, to uplift, and to heal.

This truth was embodied so beautifully by our Northstar honoree, Dr. Macie Smith. She represents that steady, unwavering strength we all look to when times are uncertain—a true example of what it means to shine consistently

and to help others find their own light

along the way.

And as we gather for the holidays, I know that for some, there may be empty seats at the table—spaces once filled by those we love. This is when we lean on the legacy of light they’ve left behind. Their warmth, their guidance, their love continue to glow in us and through us. Their light doesn’t fade; even if memories do.  it becomes part of the illumination we carry forward.

To everyone who attended, supported, volunteered, or simply held the spirit of Illuminate in your heart—thank you. Your presence made the night unforgettable, and your light continues to inspire the work we do every day.

As always, let us know how we can help.

Happy holidays with love,

Leeza
